Pouch Sodium ion Battery Cell 20Ah for Energy Storage System

Sodium ion battery is a type of secondary battery (rechargeable battery), similar to the working principle of lithium-ion batteries.

    hoffumFunctions

Sodium ion battery is a type of secondary battery (rechargeable battery) that mainly relies on the movement of sodium ions between the positive and negative electrodes to work, similar to the working principle of lithium-ion batteries.
Sodium ion batteries utilize sodium ion transfer (rather than lithium ions) to store and release electrical energy.
The electrode material used in sodium ion batteries is mainly sodium salt, which has richer reserves and lower prices compared to lithium salt. Due to the larger size of sodium ions compared to lithium ions, sodium ion batteries are a cost-effective alternative when weight and energy density requirements are not high.
Compared with lithium-ion batteries, sodium ion batteries have the following advantages:
    (1) Sodium salt raw materials have abundant reserves and low prices. Compared with ternary cathode materials for lithium-ion batteries, using iron manganese nickel based cathode materials reduces raw material costs by half.
    (2) Due to the characteristics of sodium salts, it is allowed to use low concentration electrolytes (with the same concentration electrolyte, sodium salt conductivity is about 20% higher than lithium electrolyte) to reduce costs.
    (3) Sodium ions do not form alloys with aluminum, and aluminum foil can be used as a current collector for the negative electrode, which can further reduce costs by about 8% and weight by about 10%.
    (4) Due to the non over discharge characteristics of sodium ion batteries, they are allowed to discharge to zero volts. The energy density of sodium ion batteries is greater than 100Wh/kg, which is comparable to lithium iron phosphate batteries, but its cost advantage is obvious, and it is expected to replace traditional lead-acid batteries in large-scale energy storage.
The advantages of sodium ion batteries
    1. Higher energy storage density: Sodium ion batteries have a higher energy density compared to lithium-ion batteries, especially in terms of large capacity, which can provide longer power support.
    2. Lower cost: Compared with lithium-ion batteries, sodium ion batteries require lower material costs because the abundance of sodium element is higher than that of lithium element, and their production process is relatively simple.
    3. Environmentally friendly: Compared to lead-acid batteries, nickel hydrogen batteries, and other batteries, sodium ion batteries have lower environmental issues. From production, use to disposal, it is more environmentally friendly than lithium-ion batteries.
    4. Longer lifespan: The charging and discharging process of sodium ion batteries is very stable, so their lifespan is much longer than that of lithium-ion batteries.
