Chinese Lithium Battery Breakthrough

In June 2023, a solid-state lithium battery independently developed by China with an energy density of 360 watt hours per kilogram was officially delivered to a leading electric vehicle enterprise, sparking heated discussions in the industry. This progress marks another important step for China on the path of becoming a major electric vehicle country, and is considered a significant milestone in the global electric vehicle industry.

Little is known that, before reaching this "milestone", the scientific research team of the Institute of Physics of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (hereinafter referred to as the Institute of Physics) has devoted more than 40 years to the field of lithium batteries.

Over 40 years ago in China, bicycles were not yet widespread, and cars were an unattainable luxury for ordinary people. The team led by Chen Liquan, an academician of the CAE Member and a researcher of the Institute of Physics, realized the importance of solid-state lithium batteries, made forward-looking layout, and finally promoted China's lithium battery industry to achieve an historic leap from scratch and from following to leading through difficulties and twists.

Now, nearly half a century has passed since Chen Liquan first started researching electric vehicle battery materials. For decades, with material updates and technological iterations, physics has created one new highland after another for batteries. The only constant is the spiritual bloodline of generations of scientific researchers who have climbed new heights, dared to be the first, indifferent to fame and fortune, and devoted themselves to research.

At an electric vehicle forum, Chen Liquan once again described his expectations for the future development of batteries: "Solid state batteries will accelerate and lead electric China; sodium ion batteries will keep pace and promote energy interconnection."

  It is mentioned that new energy vehicles, lithium batteries, and photovoltaic products have added new brilliance to Chinese manufacturing. China is striving to climb with a spirit of self-improvement, and there are constantly changing creations everywhere.
