Balcony Solar Energy Storage System
Since last year, a small solar energy storage system installed on balconies has become popular in the European market.
In 2023, approximately 275000 balcony photovoltaic systems will be put into operation in Germany, an increase of more than three times compared to 2022. In the first half of this year, Germany installed about 213000 balcony photovoltaics, almost equal to the total installation quantity of last year, with an exceptionally rapid growth momentum. Balcony solar energy storage, as the name suggests, is a small solar energy storage system installed on a balcony, usually consisting of one to two photovoltaic modules, a micro inverter, and an energy storage device. Compared with traditional rooftop photovoltaics and household energy storage, balcony solar energy storage systems are smaller in size, easier to install, and lower in cost. Customers can DIY them themselves while also saving electricity costs, making them popular among German apartment owners and tenants. In the German market, the price of a basic 800W balcony solar energy storage system ranges from 800 euros to 1600 euros, while the price of the photovoltaic module alone is only 350-500 euros. On this basis, the product price increases with the expansion of power, capacity, devices, etc. A complete set of balcony photovoltaic power stations composed of it can save households about 132 euros in electricity bills every year. Regarding this, Carsten Koenig, Managing Director of the German Solar Industry Association, stated. A small-scale energy revolution is happening on balconies in Germany. The energy transition is finally benefiting residents. In order to accelerate the energy transition, Germany, as the largest market for balcony photovoltaics, has introduced a bill that benefits balcony solar storage, including raising the power limit of balcony photovoltaic systems to 800 watts, incentivizing Solarpaket I (simplifying registration process), and listing them in the list of privileged measures. For example, the tax refund amount for a single balcony photovoltaic household installed in the German state of M ö nchengladbach can be as high as 500 euros. Other European markets, such as Austria, France, Italy, Poland, etc., have also introduced policies to support residents in installing solar storage systems on their balconies. As the world's largest producer of photovoltaic and energy storage equipment, China's photovoltaic storage enterprises have undoubtedly become the main force driving this "energy revolution". Portable energy storage companies were the first to seize the dividends of the balcony photovoltaic storage market. Zhenghao EcoFlow, which started with energy storage, released PowerStream in Germany in May last year and enjoyed the first wave of dividends in the German balcony solar storage market with this product. There is a natural fit between portable energy storage companies and the balcony solar storage market. The balcony light storage market can be installed by the owner independently, without relying on installers, and has to C attributes. Portable energy storage companies have gained popularity in the past few years through strong online marketing networks, covering a wide and long-term customer base, and have significant advantages in competing for C-end customers. In addition to portable energy storage companies, domestic inverter manufacturers such as DeYe Inverter, Growatt Inverter, and Sungrow Inverter are also actively expanding into the balcony photovoltaic storage market, launching micro inverter products or photovoltaic storage systems specifically for balcony photovoltaic storage. The current cooling of the European household energy storage market has also prompted more and more manufacturers to enter this high growth niche market.
